Wonderworks - August 2018

2-4 year olds and their grownups are invited to come join us to discover amazing things! Every week we’ll play with science, technology, engineering or math (or all four!) in a free-form, hands-on way that encourages discovery and learning. We will be using materials that need 1:1 supervision, so caregivers must participate fully.

Come to Aurora Public Library to sign up for Summer Reading! 3D Printing for Kids

Over the course of three classes, you’ll learn the basics of 3D printing, practise some simple CAD design, choose or design something to print, and then come in and decorate your 3D object!

OBOA - Things Arab Men Say

In this antidote to mainstream-media depictions of Arab men, we get to meet Jay, Ghassan and their friends, who gather at Jamal’s Eden Barber Shop in Edmonton to discuss politics, religion and family over a cut and a shave. Often funny, sometimes sad, this engaging NFB film documents the challenges these men face integrating into Canadian life while preserving their identity and culture.

OBOA: Photography Workshop

Landscape photographers oftentimes use their environment as a basis for creating images that don’t simply document the environment but also reflect the photographer’s personal vision.   

In this workshop we will look at things such as light, composition, depth of field, image processing and other photographic basics that will allow you to move beyond a simple literal representation ofthe environment and instead create fine art photographs that represent your vision of the world.

Teen Movie Days - Love, Simon

Up first for our winter break movie screenings is Love, Simon, a charming movie about Simon Spier, a high school boy who is just like you, except he has one huge secret - he's gay. When his secret and his email relationship with an anonymous closeted boy at his school is threatened, Simon must do some balancing with his friends and family, and finally come to terms with his identity. 

Love, Simon is based on the YA book Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli. Borrow it from the library today!

Our second winter break movie screening is Ready Player One, a sci-fi adventure movie based on the YA book of the same name by Ernest Cline. The year is 2045. When the creator of OASIS, a virtual reality world, dies, he releases a video challenging the players to his Easter Egg and win ownership of OASIS. Wade Watts, an oprhaned teenager, joins forces with a group of allies in order to beat the game before a big corporation can.
